  • Summer is almost upon us and it’s time to enjoy the beautiful outdoors the Pacific Northwest has to offer. There are so many options to be outside and here’s a few:

Hit the Beach

We are fortunate to have so many beach parks to choose from:

  • Narrows park

  • Purdy Spit

  • Fox Island Sand Spit

  • Kopachuck Beach

  • Sunrise Beach

Bring some towels, snacks and enjoy the beautiful South Sound!

Visit a historic Destroyer

A short drive north to Bremerton will give you access to the USS Turner Joy (link provided). This Navy ship saw combat in the Vietnam War. With admission you can look through the ship at your own pace, or be part of a guided tour.

Golf

So many great courses, so little time. I’ve written up an entire guide on all the golf courses nearby. This link will give you all the information you need.

Kitsap Steamers

Do you enjoy riding miniature trains through a forest? This hidden secret in Port Orchard is a lot of fun for toddlers and kids. From Spring to Fall (always double check on their openings and weather) this is a blast for the whole family. Check all the details here. The price is free, but always bring a few dollars to contribute, or buy some of their merchandise.

Pickleball

Originating from Bainbridge Island, this sport has taken off and the locals really love it here. Whether you’re playing occasionally or enjoying the leagues nearby, there’s always access to this fun sport and to get a  good workout. If you are serious about playing, look online for Pickleball groups and playing sessions. If you have any questions, reach out to me and I’ll show you how to get connected.

Waterfront Summer Market

Take a stroll down by the Harbor and support local businesses. From June 6th to August 29th you can stop by any Thursday and enjoy local goods and eats. For more details, take a look here.

Paddleboard [the Harbor or Deadman’s Island]

Gig Harbor has plenty of options for getting on the water. Paddleboards are an easy option to get out there. Whether it's a tranquil paddle, big workout, or to scratch that fishing itch – being on the water is never a bad idea. For basic details, take a look at a local rental company.

Parks

We have an abundance of parks here. Take a look at our article on the Top 5 best parks in the Gig Harbor area.

Zoo

Point Defiance Zoo is just minutes away. Enjoy a trip to see tigers, penguins, sharks, wolves, polar bears, and all the other animals the zoo has to offer.

Biking

Whether it’s a road bike or mountain bike, the South Sound has options for you. A local favorite for trail riding is Gateway Park. This enormous park has trails for walking, riding, and other amenities for picnics, playground fun, and quality family time.

Breweries & Cideries

In Conclusion

The South Sound has so much to offer, indoor and outdoors. Never hesitate to reach out and ask for any recommendations on what to do in this beautiful area.
