5 Best Gig Harbor Area Parks with Playgrounds for Kids

  1. Crescent Creek Park: Best Park for Toddlers

Crescent Creek Park, located in downtown Gig Harbor, is fun for all kids, but seems to be especially perfect for little ones (5 and under). The sandpit is a huge hit for littles, especially with the wide variety of construction toys and sand molds to choose from. This nautical-themed park is sure to keep the kiddos busy with a see-saw, 2 boat play structures, swings, and a tea cup merry-go-round.

Tips: Be prepared to run a load of laundry after your sandpit visit--it can get messy!

  1. Sehmel Park: Best Overall Park

Sehmel has plenty of room to play, which makes it the perfect option for older kids. It has a massive play structure, a huge grassy field, basketball courts, and tennis courts. There’s something here for everyone!

Tips: Bring snacks for the kids--they will probably want to stay a while.

  1. Kids’ Gig: Best Park for Climbers

Aspiring ninja warriors will adore this volunteer-built Fort Nisqually-like park. With several sets of monkey bars, a tire swing, tire tunnel, rock-climbing wall, and rope climb, your kiddos will have plenty of fun exploring this fort-like playground. Little ones will love playing the musical instruments.

Tips: To get there, park in the back lot at Discovery Elementary. Follow the pedestrian pathway to the left.

  1. Nichols Community Center: Best Uncrowded Park

This Fox Island park is never crowded, so this is our go-to park when the other parks are bursting at the seams. This park has lots of toys that aren’t found at many other playgrounds, like a kid-size fire truck, an excavator, spring rider toy, and a play kitchen.

Tip: There is a trail that loops around the park. If your kids just need to run, this is a really fun trail to race on or just do laps on.

  1. Kenneth Leo Veterans Park: Best Park for Older Kids

Boasting a brand new Seahawk-color play structure for 5-12 year-olds, this centrally located park is the perfect park to have the kids blow off some steam. The large multiple-person swing is a huge hit for older kids, along with the longer slides and obstacle course-like play area. Little ones will love the original toddler-friendly play structure.
