The South Sound has tremendous natural beauty, and it’s golf courses are no exception. Whether you’re wanting to play a leisurely round or a championship course to check off your bucket list, the South Sound offers plenty of variety that caters to any golfer--both new and experienced. Enjoy the water views, fresh air, and beautiful forests that make each golf course special and worth playing.

West of Narrows Bridge
Gold Mountain Golf Club - $$ - Website - Bremerton, WA
One of the best finds in the area as this public course has impeccable greens, landscaping, and challenging holes. Many Washington residents make the drive to Bremerton from all over the Puget Sound to enjoy this course. The two 18-hole courses, the Cascade & Olympic, are both a treat to play and the replayability factor is endless. Look into their membership options or even the 10 round punch card to get an extra bang for your buck.
Madrona Links Golf Course - $ - Website - Gig Harbor, WA
Conveniently located near Highway 16 in Gig Harbor, Madrona is a great option if you’d like a quicker round. Since its new ownership in recent years, the course has seen tremendous upgrades and improvements. Long hitters can take advantage of some of the shorter par 4’s, or you can hit the irons off the tees to be more conservative.
Canterwood Country Club - $$$ - Canterwood Membership Information. Gig Harbor, WA
This private country club is in a large gated community in north Gig Harbor with memberships in golf, social, tennis, and other amenities. Gig Harbor Golf Club - $$ - Website - Gig Harbor, WA
A private country club in the heart of Gig Harbor, this nine hole course has two sets of tees to ensure an 18 hole experience. With plenty of hills and some exciting holes, this course is a fun & quick round for anyone. Look into the membership options for this affordable golf club.
Trophy Lake Lake Golf & Casting - $$ - Website - Port Orchard, WA
Have you ever golfed at a course, looked at a pond by the green, and wished you could fish it? This public course is the best of both worlds with an 18 hole course along with the ability to fly fish in their ponds. You can buy blocks of time to fish, or get lessons as well. If you love the golf course, then a punch card may be the best choice to save money on future rounds.
McCormick Woods Golf Club - $$ - Website - Port Orchard, WA
This giant public course in Port Orchard spreads itself out through the woods and luxury homes. It’s definitely a round to stretch your legs and get some fresh air while playing a beautifully manicured course. There are membership options and the premises hosts events. Always worth the visit.
East of Narrows Bridge
Chambers Bay Golf Course - $$$ - Website - University Place, WA
Almost every golfer in the country has heard of Chambers Bay due to it hosting the PGA U.S. Open Championship in 2015 when Jordan Speith won the title. This public course was converted from a giant sandpit and now is one of the best courses you can play. Take advantage of a good walk up and down the hills, and caddies are available to carry your clubs and give you the extra intel to play this tough course well. Players travel from all around the globe to check this course off their list.
Tacoma Country & Golf Club - $$$ - Membership Information - Lakewood, WA
A reputable course known for its well-cut fairways and near-perfect greens. This private country club has many different memberships types ranging from social has a 1-3 year waitlist so contact the membership. One of those memberships that’s worth the wait.
Allenmore Golf Club - $$ - Website - Tacoma, WA
This conveniently located public course is nearby highway 16 with challenging holes and well-manicured greens. There is a men’s club for events and community, and the club also hosts events.
Fircrest Golf Club - $$$ - Membership Information - Fircrest, WA
This private course in Fircrest, which is nestled between Tacoma & University Place, is known for its luscious green fairways and great location. There are different membership options which include full, golf, social, & clubhouse. Be prepared for a waitlist but things can open up sooner than later to play great golf often.
Oakbrook Golf Club - $ - Website - Lakewood, WA
A public course in Lakewood that has great facilities and can host events and weddings. Keep an eye out for any deer and enjoy the well-maintained course. They pride themselves on the quality of the greens as well.
Meadow Park Golf Course - $ - Website - Tacoma, WA
This public course in South Tacoma has 18 and 9 hole courses and a lighted driving range to get that practice in when you want to swing in the evening. Foot Golf (it’s exactly what it sounds like -- with a soccer ball) is available too and can be fun for serious kickers or for the whole family.
